The death certificate of the acclaimed singer, known for her hit “Nothing Compares 2 U,” indicates that she died from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and asthma, the Irish Independent reported on July 27, 2024.

The certificate specifies that O’Connor’s death was due to “exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and bronchial asthma together with low grade lower respiratory tract infection.”

The document was registered by her husband, John Reynolds, in London on July 24.

O’Connor, 56, was found unresponsive at her London home on July 26, 2023. Authorities initially did not treat her death as suspicious and handed the case over to the coroner’s office.

In January, London’s Southwark Coroners Court confirmed that O’Connor died of natural causes, leading to the cessation of the coroner’s involvement.

At the time of her death, O’Connor’s family issued a statement expressing their profound grief and requesting privacy. The singer had long struggled with mental illness, including PTSD, depression, and suicidal tendencies.

Her son Shane, 17, died by apparent suicide in 2022. O’Connor is survived by her three children, including her 28-year-old daughter, Roisin Waters.
