Nigerian singer-songwriter Simisola Kosoko, better known as Simi, has opened up about the factors contributing to her success in the music industry, attributing much of it to the trailblazing efforts of female artists who paved the way before her.

In a recent conversation with African Folder, Simi expressed gratitude for the sacrifices made by female artists who defied societal norms and shattered barriers in the male-dominated music industry. She acknowledged their relentless dedication and determination, emphasizing their pivotal role in creating opportunities for women in music.

“There are women who have worked hard to damn the status quo,” Simi remarked. “So, I won’t give myself much credit because I also benefitted from other women who came before me.”
Simi’s journey in the music industry began as a gospel artist before transitioning to secular music in 2014. Reflecting on her career trajectory, she has been vocal about her decision to shift genres, citing financial considerations as a driving factor.
