The 33-year-old socialite shared her ordeal during an interview with Nana Romeo on Accra 100.5 FM’s Ayekoo Ayekoo. She recounted how she had been evicted and was seeking a place to store her belongings before moving into a new hostel.

“I told him I wanted a place to store my things because the hostel I wanted to move into operated on Mondays,” she explained. It was during this vulnerable moment that the friend, whom she trusted from their online interactions, took advantage of her while she was asleep.

“He forcefully had sex with me,” she disclosed, emphasizing that she was not in a position to give consent at the time. She clarified that despite not being tied up, the act constituted rape as it occurred without her consent.

Shugatiti, who was 18 years old at the time of the assault, expressed deep sadness whenever she recalled the incident. She did not pursue legal action against the perpetrator nor reveal his identity during the interview.

“I saw it as part of the vicissitudes of life. If I had not been desperate, in search of accommodation, this would not have happened,” she added, revealing that she left the man’s residence the following day and moved into the hostel.

The hospitality entrepreneur’s revelation has sparked discussions about safety and trust in online interactions, highlighting the vulnerability that can accompany seeking help in times of need.

Reflecting on the assault, Shugatiti lamented, “Eii, but some Ghanaian men are wicked,” underscoring the emotional impact of her experience and raising awareness about the importance of consent and respect in all interactions.
