The inspiring thing about racing is that until your vehicle wrecks beyond repair, you never quit until you cross the finish line.

It so happens that in life, sometimes the hardest races are the ones whose finish lines seem to keep moving farther away from you.
It has been a tough 8 years for this couple, as NASCAR Cup Series star Martin Truex Jr. revs into his longest race yet in his life.
Sherry Pollex, now 43, Truex Jr.’s longtime partner, was first diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2014 at age 35. Pollex’s ovarian cancer returned in the year 2016.

The couple was later met with the frustrating news in late 2020 that Pollex’s cancer had returned once again, even after beating it twice already.

In an interview with Fox Sports reporter Tom Renaldi, Truex Jr. told him, “As soon as we left there (the doctor), she’s like, ‘I’m not giving up. And she started fighting.” And she has not stopped fighting since.”
“I will fight till the end until I’m on my deathbed,” Pollex said.

Pollex’s case appears not to be an anomaly. The majority of women who are diagnosed with ovarian cancer will go into remission, and about 80% of those women, like Pollex, will see the condition recur within the next five years.
Pollex has since converted the hitherto dreadful stigma of cancer to rather inspire others. On her site, SherryStrong, Pollex reveals that her ovarian cancer taught her to cherish living in the present and create memories with loved ones.
Through SherryStrong, Pollex uses her experience to create a sense of connection with people around the world who are fighting the same battle with the hope of crossing the finish line at last.
