American men’s basketball coach Shaka Smart did not disclose the reason he shaved his hair in the first place.

Against wide spread speculations that Smart might have hair problems, everything is fine, and he changes his looks at will.

Who Is Shaka Smart?

Shaka Smart is a former basketball player and current head coach for men’s basketball at Marquette University.

Born on April 8, 1977, in Wisconsin, Smart is best known for leading Virginia Commonwealth University to victory in the 2011 NCAA tournament.

Smart graduated from Kenyon College in Gambier, Ohio, with a degree in history, and had played for the Kenyon Lords basketball team, as a point guard.

In his senior year, Smart was named to the All-North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) team and NCAC Scholar Athlete of the Year.

Smart later proceeded to California University of Pennsylvania to obtain a master’s degree.

He began coaching at California University of Pennsylvania under Bill Brown, in 1999.

So far, he has coached the teams at California, Akron, Clemson, Florida, VCU, Texas, and now Marquette.

Smart was hired by Marquette University as the Golden Eagles head coach in 2021, and became the first Black head coach in the school’s history.

In 2023, Smart led the team to win the Big East Tournament.
