Nigerian musician and activist Seun Kuti recently shared some surprising details about his family life. In a chat with media personality Timi Agbaje, Kuti talked about being a father and his relationships with his children.

Kuti said that becoming a dad is the best thing he’s ever done. He has two daughters, but he’s only close to one of them. This is because he’s not in touch with the mother of his first daughter.
When asked to explain more, Kuti said that family matters can be complicated. He admitted that he wasn’t married when he had his first daughter. In fact, he shared that he had only been intimate twice before she was born.

“The greatest thing I have ever achieved is becoming a father, having my daughter, being with her, and raising her.
“I have two kids but I’m not really close to my other daughter but to have the joy of that is the greatest achievement of my life for sure,” he stated.
Timi further asked, “How do you have two daughters but you’re close to one and not the other? Were you a single father before you married?”
“No, it’s complicated circumstances; no family is perfect, you know, but I’m not close to the mother of my other daughter.
“I wasn’t married when I had my other daughter; interestingly, I had only had premarital sex twice before my first daughter was born,” he said.
Kuti is now married to Yetunde Kuti, who is the mother of the daughter he’s close to. Despite the challenges with his first child, Kuti still feels that being a father is his greatest achievement in life.
