Senzo Meyiwa is a South African footballer who played as a goalkeeper for Orlando Pirates in the Premier Soccer League (PSL) and for the South Africa national team.

Senzo Meyiwa was born on September 24 1987. However, on his tombstone and according to his register in school, Senzo Meyiwa was born on 24 September 1984, making him thirty years old, and not 27, at the time of his death.

Senzo Meyiwa Death
Senzo Meyiwa was shot and killed in a robbery at his girlfriend, actress and singer Kelly Khumalo’s house in Vosloorus on 26 October 2014. Senzo Meyiwa was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital in Johannesburg.
One suspect, Zamokuhle Mbatha, was arrested on 31 October and appeared in court, but he was freed on 11 November due to lack of evidence. Senzo Meyiwa’s death sparked outrage over the country’s high crime and murder rates.
Senzo Meyiwa Funeral
Senzo Meyiwa was given a state funeral which took place in Durban, at Moses Mabhida Stadium on 1 November 2014.

Senzo Meyiwa’s funeral was attended by his fans and friends, multitude of football fans, his football club colleagues, football officials and dignitaries including; PSL and Orlando Pirates chairman Dr. Irvin Khoza, Kaizer Chiefs chairman Kaizer Motaung, Mamelodi Sundowns owner Patrice Motsepe, SAFA President Dr. Danny Jordaan, General Bantu Holomisa, Bheki Cele, , Dr. Zweli Mkhize, Minister of Sport and Recreation Fikile Mbalula, Premier of KwaZulu-Natal Senzo Mchunu, Minister in the Presidency Jeff Radebe who made a eulogy for Meyiwa.
Senzo Meyiwa was laid to rest in Chesterville, KwaZulu-Natal.
Senzo Meyiwa Father
During Senzo Meyiwa’s funeral, his father Samuel Meyiwa as photographed greeting the crowd in attendance by leaning out his car window with his arms outstretched, which sparked an internet trend, The Samuel Meyiwa Challenge.
Samuel Meyiwa died in 2019 after suffering from a stroke.

Senzo Meyiwa was married to Mandisa Mkhize. Senzo Meyiwa met Mandisa Mkhize in 2005 and they got married in 2013. However, barely a year later, Senzo Meyiwa was killed during a robbery at his girlfriend, actress and singer Kelly Khumalo’s house in Vosloorus.
Senzo Meyiwa Twin Brother
Senzo Meyiwa’s twin brother is the late Siyabonga Meyiwa. The Meyiwa family secretly exhumed remains of Senzo Meyiwa’s twin brother, Siyabonga Meyiwa, and reburied them in the same grave with the slain Bafana Bafana goalkeeper.
Siya Meyiwa died after drowning in the sea while swimming many years ago.

Senzo Meyiwa’s BMW X6 was repossessed from his home at Umlazi, KZN by Aucor Property in Durban after his family failed to settle the payments that were due for the car.
Senzo Meyiwa also owned a Golf GTi.
