Jay Slater, an apprentice bricklayer from Oswaldtwistle in Lancashire, was last heard from around 08:00 BST on Monday, June 17 2024.

He had traveled to Tenerife with his friend Lucy to attend a music festival. Lucy reported that Jay called her, expressing he was lost, in need of water, and had only 1% battery left on his phone before the call abruptly ended.

His last known location was traced to the Rural de Teno national park in the northwest of the island, known for its challenging terrain.

Despite efforts by Lucy and local authorities, Jay has not been heard from since that phone call.

His mother, Debbie Duncan, who has flown to Tenerife with Jay’s brother, described the situation as “absolutely horrible,” expressing deep concern over her son’s welfare.

Lucy explained that Jay had ventured out to walk back to their accommodation after staying with acquaintances he met during the holiday. She emphasized the vastness of the area, complicating the search efforts.

The Foreign Office has confirmed its involvement in the case, stating, “We are supporting the family of a British man who has been reported missing in Spain and are in contact with the local authorities.”

As the search continues, hopes remain high for Jay’s safe return as rescue teams work tirelessly in Tenerife’s challenging terrain to locate him.
