Ghanaian socialite Afia Schwarzenegger has voiced her disagreement with National Democratic Congress (NDC) running mate Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang regarding her assertion on the Free Senior High School (Free SHS) policy.

Schwarzenegger argues that statements made by certain NDC figures, including Prof. Opoku-Agyemang, alleging that their party initiated the Free SHS policy are inaccurate.

She believes that the policy was solely the effort of the incumbent NPP government, led by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, who brought it to fruition.

Afia maintains that the pronouncements by NDC members are meant to mislead the public as part of their electoral campaign as the general elections draw near.

On her Instagram page, Schwarzenegger shared a video featuring Prof. Opoku-Agyemang stating, “I want you all to understand that when we talk about Free SHS, we [NDC] started it.” In response, Afia commented under the post, “Liar to liar.”

The Free SHS policy has received praise from parents and others who acknowledge its role in increasing enrollment and providing educational opportunities for disadvantaged students.

Despite its successes, some educators and politicians have called for a review to address issues such as infrastructure shortcomings, with the goal of further improvements. However, the government has not agreed to these demands, insisting that the policy will be refined as needed.
