Former Black Stars defender Samuel Inkoom recently addressed concerns regarding the dual use of football stadiums in Ghana for both sporting events and musical concerts.

This issue gained prominence when the Accra Sports Stadium was rented out to musician Stonebwoy for a concert, resulting in significant damage to the pitch.
This damage was so severe that a scheduled premier league match had to be postponed due to the unsuitable playing conditions.
In an interview on the Day Show with Berla Mundi, Inkoom expressed his views on the matter.
He emphasized that a football pitch should primarily serve its intended purpose for sporting activities.
While he acknowledged that renting out stadiums for concerts is not inherently wrong, he stressed the importance of implementing measures to protect the pitch’s quality.

Drawing examples from practices in Europe, Inkoom highlighted that concerts can be held on football pitches without compromising their condition.
Measures such as protective covers and other precautions can be taken to ensure that the pitch remains intact after the event.
He pointed out that such practices are common abroad, citing instances where major artists like Beyonce have performed on football pitches without causing damage.
Inkoom’s remarks underscore a plea to Ghanaian authorities to adopt similar protective measures to preserve the quality of football pitches while allowing for additional uses like concerts.
This balance, he argues, would prevent disruptions to sporting events while accommodating cultural and entertainment activities.
