Rohit Sharma, the celebrated Indian cricketer, announced his retirement from international T20 matches shortly after leading India to a thrilling victory over South Africa in the Twenty20 World Cup final.

At a press conference following the final on Saturday, June 29, 2024, Sharma, aged 37, confirmed his decision to retire from T20 internationals, marking the end of a distinguished career in the format.
He retires as the highest scorer for India in T20s, amassing 4231 runs in 159 matches with five centuries, including two T20 World Cup triumphs in 2007 and 2024.
“I’ve loved every moment of this. I started my India career playing this format,” Sharma said. “This is what I wanted, I wanted to win the cup and say thank you.”
