Rob Stone, a pivotal figure in music marketing and publishing, passed away on June 24, 2024, at the age of 55 after battling cancer, as confirmed by his family and longtime colleague Jon Cohen.

In a heartfelt social media announcement, Stone’s family shared, “It is with a heavy heart and sadness we share the news of the passing of Rob Stone.

Rob bravely fought cancer over the past year. He chose to keep his diagnosis private in order to focus on his family. He was a truly amazing person who lived an incredible life.”

Stone co-founded Cornerstone Agency in 1996 alongside Steve Rifkind, establishing it as a trailblazer in music marketing.

The agency pioneered hip-hop street marketing strategies and collaborated with major brands like Sprite, Coca-Cola, Nike, and more, integrating them into the music industry.

Under Stone’s leadership, Cornerstone Agency expanded globally and diversified its portfolio, extending its influence into film with ventures like Fader Films.

In 1999, Stone and Rifkind launched The Fader magazine, known for its high-quality print and in-depth coverage of emerging artists. The magazine quickly became a cornerstone of music journalism, inspiring similar publications and contributing to the cultural landscape.

Stone’s impact extended beyond business, as he championed new talents and innovative projects, including the acclaimed documentary “Look at Me” about XXXTentacion.

He is survived by his wife, Lauren, and their three children, leaving behind a legacy of creativity, entrepreneurship, and dedication to the music and media industries.
