Richard Drew: The Photographer That Shot The Falling Man On 9/11

ON September 11, 2001, a series of four coordinated terrorist attacks by al-Qaeda caused the deaths of thousands of Americans.

Richard Drew, a photographer took one of the most infamous pictures which showed a man falling from the burning building. He was born on  6th  December 1946 and is an  Associated Press photo-journalist. He was one of four press photographers present at the assassination of Robert F. Kennedy

Drew began his workday on 9/11 at a New York City Fashion Week event. He’d gone to the end of the runway to set up his camera equipment when he heard about the first plane hitting the World Trade Center.

The photo was published in newspapers around the U.S. in the days after the attacks, but backlash from readers forced it into temporary obscurity.

Where is Drew Now?

For the past 51 years, Drew has worked for the Associated Press as a photo-journalist.

Following the September 11 attacks, Drew continued to photograph and went on to become a Pulitzer Prize-winning photographer.

Falling Man’s identity is still unknown, but he is believed to have been an employee at the Windows on the World restaurant, which sat atop the north tower.
