The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) checked markets in these areas and found a slight decrease in food prices, a relief compared to the rapid inflation seen previously.

Prices for staples like parboiled rice, maize, beans, and millet have all dropped by roughly 10% across these states.

For instance, in Gombe, a 50-kilogram bag of foreign rice now sells for ₦66,000 instead of ₦82,000, while local rice goes for ₦120,000 instead of ₦130,000. Beans are now ₦1,800 per measure, down from ₦1,900, and a 100kg bag sells at ₦78,000 instead of ₦83,000.

However, prices for perishable goods like tomatoes and onions have seen a slight increase. Still, the overall trend is positive.

Wunti market in Bauchi also reflects this trend, with decreases in the prices of maize, beans, soybeans, and sorghum.

Similarly, in Dutse grain market, local rice, millet, maize, sorghum, and wheat prices have all dropped, attributed by grain dealers to the Federal Government’s ban on bulk grain purchases and proactive monetary policies.

Overall, this decrease in food prices brings relief to residents, offering hope for better affordability and access to essential commodities.
