Rebekah Jones is a well-known American geographer, data scientist, and activist who rose to attention by leading the group that used ArcGIS to develop Florida’s COVID-19 dashboard.

She was let go from her job in May 2020, though, apparently for refusing to alter COVID-19 data. She exposed her previous employer’s misdeeds in response by coming out as a whistleblower.
In May 2021, as a result of her efforts, she was given whistleblower protections while the state looked into her allegations.

The Florida Office of Inspector General cleared the state health authorities in May 2022 and said that Jones’s accusations against the DOH were unfounded.

She did, however, accept a deferred prosecution deal in December 2022, in which she acknowledged the guilt of using the state’s emergency alert system without authorization on November 10, 2020. In December 2020, the police searched her home as a result of this event.
In the 2022 elections for the U.S. House of Representatives, Jones ran as the Democratic Party’s candidate against incumbent Matt Gaetz in Florida’s 1st congressional district.
