On July 2, 2024, Chef Smith announced he had set a new record by cooking for 802 hours and 25 minutes, presenting a certificate supposedly from Guinness World Records. However, it was later found that the certificate was fake.

Guinness World Records confirmed in an email that Chef Smith did not hold the record, stating, “No, this is not true at all. He does not hold the GWR title, and that is not our certificate.

The current and true record holder is Alan Fisher from Ireland, who cooked for 119 hours and 57 minutes in Japan from September 28 to October 3, 2023.”

Dr. Abbey criticized the media for not verifying Chef Smith’s claims before publicizing them.

He expressed concern over the damage such falsehoods cause to Ghana’s reputation.

He questioned how Chef Smith could deceive the nation without facing consequences, comparing the incident to past deceptions by figures like Dr. UN.

Dr. Abbey pointed out that in the age of technology, such claims can easily be verified. He lamented that no one took the initiative to check with Guinness World Records despite the extensive media coverage.

Chef Smith began his cook-a-thon on February 1, 2024, and cooked for 820 hours, ending on March 6, 2024, although he initially aimed for 1,200 hours.
