Tom Kent, a legendary figure in radio broadcasting with a career spanning over five decades, passed away on Monday, June 24, 2024, at his home in suburban Cleveland.

He was 69 years old. The news of his death was confirmed by the Tom Kent Radio Network and United Stations Radio Network, citing cancer as the cause.

Born in Winston-Salem, NC in August 1954, Tom Kent, affectionately known as “Truckin’ Tom Kent,” discovered his love for radio during his high school years.

Throughout his illustrious career, Kent graced the airwaves of several major-market stations across the United States.

In the 1970s and ’80s, he made significant contributions at WLS Chicago, KLIF Dallas, WIBG Philadelphia, WGCL and WIXY Cleveland, WMXJ Miami, and WAVA Washington, D.C. He also served as a program director at WBZZ Pittsburgh.

In the late 1980s, Kent ventured into the music industry with Elektra Records before returning to radio. In 2002, he founded the Tom Kent Organization and launched the TKO Radio Network, focusing on oldies programming from 1964 to 1973.

Subsequently, he sold the company and established the Tom Kent Radio Network, which continued to provide affiliates with quality programming.

Survived by his wife Karen, daughters Jackie and Katie, son Steven, and their families, Tom Kent leaves behind a lasting legacy in the radio industry.
