He expressed his profound gratitude for their contributions, especially during challenging times, and reassured them of the government’s recognition and celebration of their efforts towards the nation’s prosperity and stability.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was delighted that the Nigerian Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress, led by Comrades Joseph Ajaero and Festus Osifo, organized the event, which marked the first of its kind since the current administration took office.
He congratulated the workers on this significant day and acknowledged their patience, commitment, and support for the government’s transformative policies and programs.
The theme “People First” chosen for the May Day celebration aligns with the government’s agenda and the International Labour Organisation’s (ILO) Human-centered Agenda for the Future of Work and Centenary Declaration.

President Tinubu affirmed the government’s commitment to these principles, aiming to foster growth, equity, and sustainability through investment in people’s capabilities, work institutions, and the promotion of decent and sustainable work.
Despite facing socio-political and developmental challenges, including criminal activities and security issues, the President assured the nation of the government’s determination to address these problems.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu mentioned the establishment of a Tripartite Committee on Minimum Wage, which has been working towards proposing a new National Minimum Wage. Although a consensus has not yet been reached, the President assured that a resolution is forthcoming and that the government is considering not just a minimum wage but a living wage.
President Tinubu emphasized the importance of peace and unity for achieving a just and equitable society and realizing the nation’s vision for growth and development. He urged citizens to trust in the administration’s initiatives, which are aimed at transforming Nigeria into a nation that can provide for its people.
He called upon everyone to join hands in shaping the country’s destiny towards greatness and to use the power of the labour movement for the greater good of the nation.
