President Akufo Addo in Seoul for Korea-Africa Summit

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo left Ghana on Friday, May 31, 2024, to visit Seoul, Korea. He was invited by the President of the Republic of Korea, Yoon Suk Yeol.

President Akufo-Addo is leading the Ghanaian team to the Korea-Africa Summit, which will take place from June 4 to June 5, 2024, in Seoul.

The President was joined by the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Shirley Ayorkor Botchway, and other officials from the Foreign Ministry, Trade Ministry, and the Presidency.

The purpose of the summit is to strengthen relations and discuss issues of mutual interest between Korea and Africa.

During President Akufo-Addo’s trip, the Vice President, Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, will take on the role of Acting President.

This follows the rules set out in Article 60(8) of the Ghanaian constitution, which states that the Vice President should act in the President’s place when he is out of the country.

President Akufo-Addo is expected to return to Ghana on Thursday, June 6, 2024. The trip is seen as an important step in fostering stronger ties between Ghana and Korea, promoting trade, and enhancing diplomatic relations.

The Korea-Africa Summit provides a platform for African leaders to engage with Korean counterparts, share ideas, and explore opportunities for cooperation in various sectors.
