Phil Foden has been named the Footballer of the Year by the Football Writers Association, a tribute to his outstanding performance this season.

The Manchester City player has been a key contributor with 16 goals and 7 assists, helping his team in their pursuit of two trophies. Foden is the latest player from Manchester City to receive this honor, following Erling Haaland and Ruben Dias in previous years.

The award, which dates back to 1948 when Sir Stanley Matthews was the first recipient, saw Foden secure 42% of the votes this year.

His England teammate Declan Rice, who has had an impressive first season at Arsenal, was the runner-up. Foden’s City teammate Rodri, known for his consistent performance, finished third.
The list of top six players also featured Cole Palmer, Ollie Watkins, and Martin Odegaard from Chelsea, Aston Villa, and Arsenal respectively.
Expressing his gratitude, Foden acknowledged the significant role his teammates and coaches played in his success. He highlighted the collective effort and continuous improvement within the team as key factors to his personal development.
Foden will be officially celebrated at the Footballer of the Year dinner in London on May 16.
