McLaughlin-Levrone dominated the race, leaving her competitors well behind. Dutch runner Femke Bol, who had been expected to challenge, finished third with a time of 52.15 seconds.

US athlete Anna Cockrell claimed the silver medal with a personal best of 51.87 seconds.

Bol, who had achieved notable records earlier in the season, including an indoor 400m flat world record and a European 400m hurdles record, could not match McLaughlin-Levrone’s pace in this event.

Bol had also contributed to a gold medal for the Netherlands in the mixed 4x400m relay earlier in the Games.

McLaughlin-Levrone, who celebrated her 25th birthday on Wednesday, expressed her joy and gratitude, stating, “It’s amazing to see our sport continue to grow, for people to want to watch the 400m hurdles, it’s amazing.”

She acknowledged the hard work leading up to the race and looked forward to celebrating with her family and preparing for the relay.
