Léon Marchand has secured his fourth gold medal at the Paris Olympics, setting his fourth Olympic record with a remarkable performance in the 200-meter individual medley on Friday, August 2 2024.

The French crowd at Paris La Défense Arena erupted with every stroke, celebrating their new national hero.
Marchand’s time of 1:54.06 surpassed the previous Olympic record set by American Michael Phelps in Beijing, who clocked in at 1:54.23.
The fans’ chants of “Léon, Léon, Léon” filled the arena as he stepped onto the medal podium, where he proudly sang “La Marseillaise.”
The 22-year-old Arizona State athlete’s victory in the 200 IM follows his wins in the 200 butterfly and breaststroke on Wednesday, as well as his 400 IM triumph on Sunday.
All of his wins have been record-breaking performances.

Marchand’s Olympic journey isn’t over yet. He has a chance to add another medal on Saturday in the 4×100 mixed medley relay, though this time, his success will depend on the performance of his three teammates.
Duncan Scott of Great Britain took silver in the event, while Wang Shun of China secured bronze, narrowly beating Carson Foster to claim a spot on the podium.
