Douglass’s gold is a historic achievement for the University of Virginia, as she is the first Cavalier swimmer to win an individual gold medal.

The U.S. has now medaled in the 4x200m freestyle relay at every Olympics since its debut in 1996, with eight consecutive medals.

Douglass, a 2023 Virginia graduate, was a standout swimmer during her collegiate career, earning numerous accolades including two Honda Awards, two CSCAA Swimmer of the Year titles, and multiple NCAA championships.
