Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has sanctioned the suspension of the state’s Commissioner for Health, Dr. Ngozi Okoronkwo. This decision was announced in a statement released on Tuesday by the Commissioner for Information and Culture, Okey Kanu.

The statement revealed that Dr. Okoronkwo’s suspension is intended to facilitate an investigation into allegations of gross misconduct made against him. Kanu emphasized that this action aligns with Governor Otti’s strict policy of zero tolerance for any form of misconduct and his strong commitment to transparency and accountability in governance.

“The Abia State Government is dedicated to good governance and the rule of law, under which individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty,” Kanu stated. “As such, the administration is thorough in investigating and confirming any infractions or misconduct identified by its internal monitoring and feedback system.”
Pending the outcome of the investigation, the Ministry of Health will be jointly managed by the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Ifeyinwa Kalu, and the Governor’s Special Adviser on Health, Dr. Mrs. Ngozi Azodo. This interim arrangement ensures that the ministry continues to function smoothly while maintaining oversight and operational efficiency.
