A WhatsApp message containing a photo of Wilson Hardy wearing a dark-colored face mask was circulated on Instagram, leading to accusations of racism.

In response to the controversy, the BOA confirmed that Wilson Hardy has been withdrawn from the rugby sevens placement matches at the Paris 2024 Olympics on medical grounds. Tokyo 2020 Olympian Abi Burton will replace her in the squad.

The BOA stated: “The British Olympic Association has been made aware of an image published on a social media platform and is investigating the matter.” The investigation is ongoing.

Wilson Hardy, competing in her second Olympic Games after Rio 2016, had participated in the quarterfinal match against the United States, which ended Team GB’s medal aspirations.

Team GB will face China on Tuesday, August 6 2024 to determine their final standings from fifth to eighth place.
