Dr. Serebour Quaicoe, the Director of Electoral Services at the EC, revealed this action during an appearance on JoyNews’ Newsfile on April 13, 2024.

He emphasized that the move aims to ensure accountability for those responsible for stealing state property.

Dr. Quaicoe explained that the police initiated an investigation approximately a month ago when the EC officially reported the BVDs as missing.

He stated, “That is why we said that we have lost this BVDs and these are the suspects. So investigate and let them go through the legal regime, whatever has to be done, should be done.”

The suspects have been interdicted and are undergoing security investigation. Dr. Quaicoe noted that they will soon face court proceedings, and if found guilty, they will face the consequences according to the law.

Regarding the missing BVDs, the Director of Electoral Services assured the public that there is no cause for alarm since the devices have not been activated.

On the same program, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, the Director of Elections and IT for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), highlighted that the BVDs had been missing for over a month. He credited NDC legislators for bringing attention to the issue.

The Minority in Parliament had previously raised concerns about the alleged disappearance of seven biometric devices on March 20, urging prompt action from the police due to potential implications for the upcoming December elections.
