The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress, (NDC) and former president of Ghana, John Dramani has alleged that the ruling New Patriotic Party led by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo threatens and in some cases also kills people who disagree with his government.

According to the former president, President Nana Addo feigns to be a human rights lawyer, but in real essence, he is a democratic dictator who doesn’t listen or tolerates divergent views.

He further added that sometimes to scare people who are vocal, he either scares or threatens or in some instances kills people who criticize his government.

“One of the things the NPP uses is fear. If you criticize the administration, they will come after you, dismiss you, threaten you or kill you in some instances,” he said.

Among some of the things, the former has accused the president and the NPP of is using the National Communication Authority to curtail media freedom.

Furthermore, he alleged that some of the harassment and murders that some media men faced under the Akufo-Addo government is sometimes perpetuated by his government hence there is less commitment to find and apprehend the culprits.

“You remember Ahmed Suale who was killed under the Akufo-Addo administration and up till now, his killers have not been found. There was also a journalist here in the Upper East who investigated some malfeasance and he had to run away for his life,” he said.

The NDC flagbearer is currently on a 3-day campaign tour of the Upper East Region where he addressed party members and supporters in various constituencies.
