They admitted their mistake, citing a surge in security challenges under Tinubu’s administration.

Abdul-Azeez Suleiman, the forum’s spokesperson, revealed their concerns in an interview with The Guardian.

He highlighted the recent abduction of school children in Kuriga, Kaduna, as evidence of the government’s failure to ensure citizen safety.

Despite gestures from former Anambra Governor Peter Obi towards northern communities, Suleiman emphasized the forum’s commitment to learning from their past mistake.

They vowed to be more cautious in selecting future presidential candidates, prioritizing unity and inclusivity.

Reflecting on Tinubu’s past election performance, where he garnered significant support from the North, Suleiman stressed the importance of unity in candidate selection.

The forum aims to choose a leader who can unite the country and govern in the best interest of all Nigerians.

President Tinubu, currently serving his term, has faced criticism for advocating military intervention in Niger and alleged nepotism in appointments.

The Northern Elders Forum’s reassessment signifies a shift towards a more cautious and inclusive approach to presidential candidacy selection.
