This action comes in response to the recent increase in electricity tariffs, a decision that has angered many.

By blocking the main gate of the company, the NLC aims to highlight the struggles faced by consumers and demand a reversal of the tariff hike.

This protest follows the NLC and Trade Union Congress (TUC)’s threat to shut down offices of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) and Distribution Companies (DisCos) nationwide.

Despite efforts to negotiate, the unions remain steadfast in their demand for a complete rollback of the tariff increase.

The move by the NLC underscores the widespread frustration among consumers over the high cost of electricity.

With workers stranded outside the JEDC headquarters, the message is clear: the unions are determined to take decisive action to alleviate the burden on consumers.

As the standoff continues, it remains to be seen whether the government and electricity companies will heed the calls for a reduction in tariffs.

Until then, the NLC and TUC are prepared to escalate their protest to ensure that the voices of consumers are heard.
