Nigeria’s Chukwuebuka Enekwechi has secured a spot in the men’s shot put final at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

Enekwechi, who threw 21.13 meters to place fifth in Qualification Group B, is the first Nigerian to reach a final at this year’s Olympics.

The 31-year-old athlete previously competed in the shot put final at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. This time, Enekwechi is aiming for a top-three finish in the final scheduled for Saturday.

Enekwechi is a distinguished shot putter with notable achievements including the 2018 Commonwealth Games silver medal and the title of African Champion.

He also won the 2019 African Games with a throw of 21.48 meters, setting an African Games record.

His impressive career includes setting a Nigerian National record with a throw of 21.77 meters in 2019, surpassing the previous record held by Stephen Mozia. Enekwechi’s consistent performance has kept him among the top athletes globally.
