As such, Ruddy would likely be brought in to fulfill this role, making only occasional appearances. The 37-year-old has previously played for clubs such as Norwich City, Wolves, and Cambridge United.
Premier League clubs have a strong recent history of signing English third-choice goalkeepers to meet the competition’s homegrown player regulations.
Chelsea, for instance, currently have Marcus Bettinelli on their books, while Manchester City have former England international Scott Carson.
This move aligns with Newcastle United’s strategy to comply with these regulations while bolstering their squad depth.
