The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has lifted the suspension on its Northern Regional Vice Chairman, Alhaji Hamid Gbewaa, effective immediately.

The decision to suspend Gbewaa came after an incident where he was accused of assaulting the Northern Regional Treasurer of the party, Hajia Shamima Yakubu.

In a statement signed by the NDC’s General Secretary, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, it was noted that Gbewaa exhibited sincere remorse for his actions, leading to the party’s decision to reinstate him.

A reconciliation process was initiated between the parties involved, during which Gbewaa offered an official apology to the Northern Regional Treasurer.

However, the revocation of the suspension is contingent upon Gbewaa’s adherence to the condition of issuing an official apology.

While the reinstatement signals a desire for harmony within the party, Gbewaa has been advised to exercise caution in his future conduct. The statement emphasized that any form of assault is unacceptable and that Gbewaa should maintain good behavior going forward.

It’s worth noting that in January 2024, Gbewaa was arrested and later granted bail in connection with the assault on the Northern Regional Treasurer. This incident led to protests by NDC supporters, who subsequently locked up the party’s regional and constituency offices.
