Nasboi Explains His Decision Not to Join the Nationwide Protest

Nigerian skitmaker Nasboi recently explained why he and many other celebrities are choosing not to participate in the ongoing nationwide protests. He shared his thoughts in a now-deleted Twitter post, which received significant backlash.

Nasboi revealed that the last time he spoke up about political issues, he received numerous threats. When he posted these threatening messages online, people laughed at him. This experience made him decide to stay silent on matters of protests and politics.

He emphasized that, contrary to popular belief, celebrities do not make money from politics. In his words;

“Me, protest? Lol. The last time I spoke up, dem use threaten wan finish my life. I come tweeter come post the dm’s of threats, Na laugh people dey laugh for here. A lot of celebrities don’t get money off politics like you insinuate. Buh na just fear of being a scape goat.”

Nasboi’s post sparked a variety of reactions from netizens. One user, @nurse_prudence_, warned him never to ask people to stream his music again. Another user, @domingo_loso, stated that the public no longer needs celebrities because they can use the Internet and social media to their advantage.

@domingo_loso stated: “We actually don’t need the celebrities at this point, we have the Internet and social media to use to our advantage”

@mideronke asked: “is Macaroni not a celebrity. Yet his voice is still heard. You for no just talk this thing o.”

@bjsthoughts said: “lol very senseless talk! How do you make money ? From@Nigerians who use their data to watch your skits and subscribe to your channels that’s why YouTube and facebook pays you, if you no wan protest nobody force you, you still cannot show solidarity with the people? If you don’t support the protest which is the will of the people, e better to just keep quiet!!”

@mykehoneyland added: “That’s why FELA is irreplaceable, he was ready to die for activism, literally watched his mother thrown off a building and didn’t stop, long live FELA and other activists that have died for the cause”
