Nigerian comedian and activist Mr. Macaroni has criticized the government’s response to the ongoing #EndBadGovernance protests, accusing authorities of disrupting peaceful demonstrations.

On August 1, 2024, he voiced his concerns on X after SP Benjamin Hundeyin claimed that the protests in Lagos were peaceful.

Mr. Macaroni stated that the protests are always peaceful and well-intentioned until state-sponsored thugs are sent to cause disruptions. He pointed out that the police often ignore these infiltrators and instead target the peaceful protesters. This scenario, he noted, is not limited to Lagos but occurs in other states as well.
Drawing comparisons to the 2020 ENDSARS protests, Mr. Macaroni accused the government of attempting to rewrite the history of these events.
Mr. Macaroni emphasized that just as with EndSars, the records will always reflect the reality of what happened, highlighting those he sees as the real enemies of Nigeria who incite violence and chaos.

He also criticized anti-protesters who confront those demonstrating peacefully. He found it ironic that those who once protested peacefully are now trying to prevent others from doing the same.

Mr. Macaroni stressed that people have the right to protest and voice their grievances. He questioned how the government can continue to punish people and then tell them they cannot complain. He asserted that the government should protect peaceful protesters rather than be the source of their problems.
In his X post, Mr. Macaroni said, “If people want to protest and cry out to the government, let them. How can the government keep punishing people and then tell them they can’t complain? The government should protect peaceful protesters, but instead, it’s the same government that’s causing the problems.”
