Moussa Traoré was a Malian military, and dictator, a politician who served as the President of Mali from 1968 to 1991.

Moussa Traoré was born in Kayes, a city in Mali on September 25, 1936.

As a military Lieutenant, he led the military in the ousting of President Modibo Keïta in 1968 and then went ahead to serve as head of state until March 1991, when he was overthrown by popular protests and a military coup.

Traoré schooled in Kita, a town in Western Mali, and at the military academy in Fréjus, France.

He returned to Mali in 1960, after its 1959 independence, and became second lieutenant and lieutenant respectively.

Traoré is married has been married to Mariam Traoré who had for him a child named Cheick Boucadry Traoré.

The soldier retired from active service fully and later passed away on 15 September 2020 ten days to his birthday. He was given a full military burial for his contribution to Mali’s development.
