Former Black Stars player Mohammed Polo has characterized the current Black Stars coach, Otto Addo, as a “latter-day saint,” suggesting that a coach could have been chosen from a retired player list that contributed to Ghana winning its 4 AFCON trophies.

The recipient of the 1975 Ghana Football Association Footballer of the Year award was among the retired footballers celebrated at an event arranged by Footy Legends Gh at the Mantse Agbonaa Park in James Town.
During a conversation with Citi Sports following the event, Polo, affectionately known as “the dribbling magician,” expressed his sorrow that players from the 1970s and 1980s had been marginalized.

“I think the man himself who has been brought in is a latter-day saint.
I feel sad but it’s an opportunity. We saw what Kwesi Appiah did, but for some reason, they had to sideline him”.
Adding “I’m saying today that he’s the best coach that we have had in recent times. He’s still a coach but he’s outside coaching when we need a coach”, Polo continued.
“Now we are going to try somebody. We are giving Otto Addo a trial. I’m not saying he’s not good but don’t we have people in the system to give them trials?. Certain things are happening in the system that are not helping us,” he stated.
