The decision follows a preliminary investigation by the home affairs department, which found that Adetshina’s mother may have committed “identity theft” to acquire South African nationality.

Adetshina, a 23-year-old law student, revealed that she was born in Soweto and raised in Cape Town. She has stated that her father is Nigerian and her mother is of South African and Mozambican descent.

The investigation was prompted by social media scrutiny questioning her South African roots.

The home affairs department reported that while Adetshina’s mother might have stolen the identity of an “innocent” South African, Adetshina herself was not involved in these actions as she was an infant at the time.

The department is continuing its investigation to determine the implications of the alleged fraudulent activity on Adetshina’s citizenship status and is considering pressing criminal charges.

In her Instagram announcement, Adetshina did not address the investigation’s findings directly but expressed gratitude for the support she has received. She wished the best to the remaining contestants, stating, “Whoever wears the crown represents us all.”
