Miranda Cosgrave was born in Los Angeles to Tom Cosgrave, who owns a dry cleaning business, and Chris, a homemaker. She has said that she is of Irish, English and French descent.

She is an only child and was homeschooled from sixth grade onwards. She struggled with body image during childhood. Before becoming an actress, she wanted to be a veterinarian.

Cosgrove began her career at the age of seven, making several appearances in television commercials. Thereafter, she made her acting debut as Summer Hathaway in Richard Linklater’s comedy film School of Rock (2003).

She went on to play several minor television roles before starring as Megan Parker on the sitcom Drake & Josh; this established her as a child actress and introduced her to a wider audience.
Cosgrove hosted the 2022 Kids’ Choice Awards alongside Rob Gronkowski on April 9, 2022, where she won the award for Favourite Female TV Star, marking her second win from the Kids’ Choice Awards. Cosgrove will reprise the role of Margo in Despicable Me 4, which is set for release in 2024.
