Following high school, he played college football for Purdue University from 1992 to 1995, where he emerged as the first player in school history named MVP in three consecutive seasons.

Alstott was selected by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the second round with the 35th pick in
the 1996 NFL Draft. He spent his entire 12-year NFL career with the Buccaneers from 1996 to 2007.
