Mercedes-Benz has announced an emergency recall of roughly one million older vehicles worldwide owing to a potential braking system fault.

The recall, according to Germany’s federal transport authority (KBA), affected automobiles made between 2004 and 2015 in the SUV series ML and GL, as well as the R-Class luxury minivan. The KBA noted that 993,407 vehicles were being recalled worldwide, including approximately 70,000 in Germany.

It is unknown how many vehicles in the United Kingdom are affected. The company recalled a comparable number of vehicles in 2021 due to issues with its emergency call systems.

“Corrosion on the brake booster can, in the worst-case scenario, result in the connection between the brake pedal and the braking system being severed,” according to the German transport authority KBA.

Mercedes further stated that “a particularly powerful or harsh braking manoeuvre may cause mechanical damage to the brake booster.”

Mercedes stated that the recalled vehicles will be inspected and any problematic parts will be replaced. Mercedes was forced to recall 75,000 cars in the United Kingdom in 2021 due to a fire risk.
