Qin Haiyang is a prominent Chinese swimmer specializing in breaststroke and individual medley events.

He is renowned for holding the world record in the 200m breaststroke, a record he set at the 2023 World Aquatics Championships.
Qin also made history by becoming the first swimmer to win all three breaststroke events (50m, 100m, and 200m) at a single edition of the championships.
Early Achievements
Qin’s international career began at the 2018 Asian Games, where he won gold in the 4×100 metre medley relay.
Later that year, he earned a silver medal in the 200m breaststroke at the World Championships. In 2019, Qin won three silver medals and one bronze at the Military World Games.
Tokyo Olympics and Training Shift
Qin qualified for the 2021 Tokyo Olympics in the 200m breaststroke but was disqualified in the heats due to an illegal kick, which he described as a “stupid mistake.”
Following this setback, Qin moved to Beijing and trained under coach Cui Dengrong, leading to significant improvements in his performance.

Asian Games Success
At the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games, Qin excelled across several events.
He won gold in the 100m breaststroke with a record time of 57.76 seconds, gold in the 200m breaststroke with a new Asian Games record of 2:07.03, and gold in the 50m breaststroke with a time of 26.25 seconds.
He also contributed to gold medal wins in the mixed 4x100m medley relay and the men’s 4x100m medley relay.
World Championships and World Cup
In 2023, Qin achieved a historic feat at the World Aquatics Championships by winning gold in all three breaststroke events and setting new Asian records for each. He also became the world record holder in the 200m breaststroke.
Following these successes, Qin continued his dominance in the 2023 Swimming World Cup, where he won gold in the 50m, 100m, and 200m breaststroke events at all three World Cup legs in Berlin, Athens, and Budapest.
His outstanding performances earned him the World Cup title and solidified his status as a leading swimmer in his field.
