Mark Minnie was a a policeman detective-turned-author best known for his interest in paedophilia networks.
Mark Minnie was a detective at the police’s narcotics bureau in Port Elizabeth in the 1980’s when he came across allegations that children were recruited by a popular local environmentalist, diver and businessman, Dave Allen to perform sex acts on him and powerful politicians.

After meeting the popular journalist Chris Steyn wo was at the time investigating the alleged suicide of John Wiley, Mark Minnie became convinced that John Wiley was assassinated to keep the South African National Party’s VIPaedophile connection from leaking out.
Chris Steyn’s findings during his investigation of John Wiley’s alleged suicide was not published by the Cape Times whereas Mark Minnie was forced to resign from the police due to intimidation.

Despite knowing that they were entering into a very dangerous terrain, Chris Steyn and Mark Minnie teamed up to write The Lost Boys of Bird Island, a book that sought to expose top-level child abuse by high ranking South African politicians. The Lost Boys of Bird Island was published on 5 August 2018 and it detailed the inhumane activities of South Africa’s last apartheid government.

The Last Boys of Bird Island described a VIPaedophile network which operated in the top echelons of South Africa’s last apartheid government and accused Magnus Malan, John Wiley and Dave Allen of being part of a cartel that abused and raped boys mostly of mixed race – during “fishing excursions” to Bird Island, a declared nature reserve just off the coast of Port Elizabeth.

Nine days after The Last Boys of Bird Island was released, Mark Minnie was found dead laying in Theescombe, Port Elizabeth in the bushes of a farm owned by one of his friends. Mark Minnie’s body showed a gunshot wound to his head.
According to the spokesperson of the South African Police, a farewell letter was found near Mark Winnie’s cadaver and that there was no suspicion of foul play.

In November 2018, Mark Minnie’s death was ruled as suicide.
