Author Marion Mildred Halligan AM was from Australia. Before releasing her first collection of short tales, she was employed as a journalist and a school teacher in Newcastle, New South Wales, where she was born and raised.

On April 16, 1940, Marion Mildred Halligan was born in Newcastle, New South Wales. She belonged to a group of female authors called the “Canberra Seven” or “Seven Writers” for many years. They were based in Canberra.

Following Marian Eldridge’s passing in 1997, the group largely broke apart. But before that, they got together frequently to discuss and evaluate each other’s writing, and in 1988 they released Canberra Tales, a collection of short stories. Halligan passed away at the age of 83 on February 19, 2024.
