The Athletic first reported the agreement, ending months of speculation about Ashworth’s future.
Initially, both clubs were far apart in their valuation of Ashworth, who joined Newcastle in 2022, with United offering £3 million in compensation.
The deal, which at one point seemed to require arbitration, is now finalized, and Ashworth will soon be confirmed as United’s sporting director. In this role, he will oversee the club’s football performance, recruitment, and operations.
Dan Ashworth’s appointment is part of Ratcliffe’s broader effort to overhaul Manchester United’s off-field team.
