Manchester United Eases Past Newcastle to Keep European Qualification Hopes Alive

Rasmus Hojlund, coming off the bench, scored a key goal in the 84th minute at Old Trafford, helping Manchester United, led by manager Erik ten Hag, to secure an important victory in their last home match of the season.

Both teams are now level with 57 points each, with Manchester United in seventh place due to a lower goal difference. They are three points behind Chelsea, who sits in sixth place after defeating Brighton 2-1 earlier.

Teams that finish in the sixth and seventh positions in the Premier League will qualify for the Europa League and Europa Conference League. Manchester United also has a chance to enter the Europa League if they win the FA Cup final against Manchester City on May 25.

During the game, Kobbie Mainoo scored for Manchester United in the 31st minute with assistance from Amad Diallo, who broke through Newcastle’s defense. Newcastle responded with an equalizer by Anthony Gordon in the 49th minute, leading to a suspenseful second half.

Manchester United took the lead again when Diallo netted his second goal with a strong left-footed strike in the 57th minute after a corner kick was not cleared properly by Newcastle’s defense.

Newcastle’s Lewis Hall scored late in the game during stoppage time, making the final moments tense as they narrowed Manchester United’s lead to 3-2.
