According to ESPN, the club has contacted Matthijs de Ligt’s representatives and plans to make an official approach to Bayern soon.
This shift in focus comes after negotiations with Everton for Jarrad Branthwaite hit a deadlock, with Everton rejecting United’s £43 million bid and holding out for closer to £70 million.

Manager Erik ten Hag is prioritizing the signing of at least one centre-back this summer to fill the void left by Raphael Varane, who departed Old Trafford on a free transfer.
Alongside De Ligt, United are also interested in Lille’s Leny Yoro and Crystal Palace’s Marc Guéhi.
Real Madrid currently lead the race for Yoro, while Liverpool have shown interest in Guéhi, who has performed well for England at Euro 2024.
Despite these challenges, Manchester United will be hopeful of securing the signing of Matthijs de Ligt.
