Speaking at a stakeholder engagement with the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI) in Accra, Mahama emphasized the importance of supporting local businesses and creating job opportunities, especially for the youth.

Mahama highlighted the necessity of enacting regulations to strengthen the local business sector and outlined plans to revitalize critical industries like the Volta Aluminium Company (VALCO), with a particular focus on developing the downstream aluminium sector.

He stated, “We work to revamp and reignite strategic industries such as Volta Aluminium Company (VALCO) because of the downstream aluminium sector while boosting the production of rice, sugar, tomato, fish, poultry, meat and meat products, vegetable cooking oil, and pharmaceutical products.”

Mahama emphasized that once local production capacity for these items is increased, import restrictions will be imposed to curb the excessive importation of these goods.

This move is aimed at promoting self-sufficiency and reducing reliance on imported products, ultimately contributing to the growth and development of Ghana’s economy.
