The American tennis star, visibly emotional, suffered an upper left leg injury during the eighth game of the final set.

At that critical juncture, Keys held a commanding 5-2 lead in the set, positioning herself to secure victory. Despite efforts to continue, Keys struggled with mobility and took a 10-minute medical timeout to address the injury.

Returning to the court with her leg heavily bandaged, Keys persisted, but her movement remained compromised. Paolini capitalized on the situation, breaking Keys’ serve and eventually forcing her opponent to retire from the match.

The final score stood at 6-3, 6-7(6), 5-5 Ret., marking an unfortunate end to Keys’ Wimbledon campaign.

Paolini, acknowledging the challenging circumstances, expressed empathy for Keys during her on-court interview, stating, “To end the match like this, it’s bad, what can I say? We played a really good match. It was really tough. A lot of ups and downs. I’m feeling a little bit happy, but also sad for her. It’s not easy to win like that.”

Keys, 29 years old and ranked No. 13 in the Women’s Tennis Association, had entered Wimbledon as the 12th seed, aiming to secure her third career quarterfinal appearance at the prestigious tournament.

The injury setback is a disappointing turn for Keys, who now focuses on recovery and future tournaments following her courageous efforts at Wimbledon.
