Ghanaian rapper Lyrical Joe has shared his thoughts on the rap beef between Ghana’s Sarkodie and Nigeria’s Dremo.

The conflict began in May when Sarkodie released his song “Brag” as part of his project “The Championship Mixtape.”
In the song, Sarkodie declared himself superior to other African artists, comparing himself to international stars like Kendrick Lamar and J.Cole.
He also claimed to be above Nigerian musicians such as Davido, Wizkid, and Burna Boy, stating that he was already successful in the industry before they became famous.
Dremo, who is associated with Davido, responded to Sarkodie with his own track, referencing Nigeria’s independence year, 1960. His reply impressed many Ghanaians due to its strong lyrical content.

In an interview, Lyrical Joe explained why he hasn’t responded further to Dremo, clarifying that he was never told to stop.
He mentioned that the excitement of fans on social media influenced the situation. Joe emphasized that Sarkodie is capable of defending himself and that he got involved because it was about Ghana’s rap scene.
“No one contacted me to ceasefire. The joy fans had for this whole thing was a factor. Sarkodie can stand his own ground; I joined in because it concerned rap in Ghana,” he said.
Joe also praised Sarkodie for his significant role in the Ghanaian rap industry. “He’s energizing the rap game. I stepped in to represent the genre, not to fight Sarkodie’s battles. He can handle those himself,” Joe added.
