Lynda Gravátt Cause of Death

Lynda Gravátt, who was well-known for her acting in New York and Washington D.C. theaters, as well as for her appearances on TV shows like Law & Order and The Good Wife, passed away on February 23 at a hospital in New Jersey. She was 77 years old.

Her death was confirmed by the National Black Theatre, but the cause has not been revealed.

Gravátt graduated from Howard University. She later joined the Living Stage, a theater group in Washington D.C., where she focused on plays that addressed social issues. After returning to New York City, Gravátt became a regular in Off Broadway productions. Some of her notable roles included performances in plays like The Old Settler, Intimate Apparel, King Hedley II, The Little Foxes, and Skeleton Crew. She also appeared on Broadway, including in productions like King Hedley II and Doubt. Gravátt received several award nominations for her work, winning awards such as the Theatre World award for The Old Settler and an AUDELCO Award for Intimate Apparel.

In addition to her acting career, Gravátt taught theater arts at schools like the Duke Ellington School of the Arts, Howard University, and Rutgers University. Actors like Viola Davis and Phylicia Rashad praised her talent and character after her passing. Gravátt is survived by her sons David and Oge, five grandchildren, and other relatives.
